These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Step1st mobile application ("the App") operated by Step1st ("we", "our", or "us").

By downloading or using the App, you agree to these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree with these Terms, please do not use the App.

1. Description of the Service

Step1st is a productivity and wellness application designed to help users reduce distractions by temporarily restricting selected apps until a daily step goal is reached.

The App may use device features such as:

  • Motion & Fitness activity
  • Apple Health data (optional)
  • Screen Time controls

to enable its functionality.

Most information processed by Step1st stays locally on your device.

The App may also offer optional seasonal social features (such as "Friends Ghost Hunt") that synchronize pseudonymous activity metrics, party leaderboards, and live feeds with our secure servers. See our Privacy Policy for details.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use Step1st.

By using the App, you confirm that you meet this requirement.

3. User Responsibilities and Acceptable Use

When using Step1st, you agree to:

  • use the App in compliance with all applicable laws and regulations
  • choose a display handle (for example, @SpookyGhost) and avatar emoji that are respectful, non-offensive, non-defamatory, and do not infringe on any third-party rights or impersonate others
  • engage in fair play when participating in social features, refraining from falsifying step counts, using automated scripts or bots, or exploiting API endpoints
  • not use game mechanics or party features to harass, bully, or spam other users
  • not attempt to misuse, disrupt, reverse engineer, or interfere with the App's functionality, servers, network infrastructure, or security systems

You are solely responsible for how you configure app restrictions and step goals on your device and for your interactions within private parties. We reserve the right to reject, require changes to, or restrict access to social features for users or handles that violate these Terms, as we deem appropriate.

3.1 Seasonal Features and Game Mechanics

Participation in seasonal events (such as "Friends Ghost Hunt") is entirely optional and strictly for entertainment among friends. By joining a party, you acknowledge and agree that:

  • Game mechanics: In-party actions (such as sending Treats or applying Ghost Locks) are virtual game mechanics that may adjust your displayed leaderboard step total or effective daily step goal for unlocking apps, consistent with in-app rules.
  • Single active party: You may only participate in one active party at a time. To join a different party, you must leave your current active party first.
  • Leave party mechanics: Leaving or switching parties will not automatically reset your daily step metrics, interaction quotas, Treat or Ghost Lock effects, or unlock statuses gained for that calendar day (as governed by in-app rules and your local daily reset).
  • No prizes or gambling: Seasonal social features do not offer real-world monetary rewards, prizes, or gambling.
  • Seasonal availability: Seasonal events are available for a limited time only. After the event end date (for example, November 14, 2026, Pacific Time), party features may be disabled in the App, and associated party data may be archived as described in our Privacy Policy.
  • Invite responsibility: Parties are private and joined via invite links or party codes. You are responsible for sharing invite links or codes only with people you trust.

4. Health and Fitness Disclaimer

Step1st is intended for general wellness and productivity purposes only.

The App:

  • does not provide medical advice
  • does not diagnose or treat health conditions
  • should not be relied upon as a medical or fitness device

Always consult a qualified healthcare professional for medical advice.

5. Permissions and Device Features

Some features of Step1st require system permissions, including:

  • Motion & Fitness activity access
  • Apple Health (HealthKit) step data access
  • Screen Time access

You may choose whether to grant these permissions.

Certain features of the App may not function properly if permissions are denied.

6. Subscriptions and Payments

Step1st may offer optional Pro subscriptions that unlock additional features.

Subscriptions are processed through Apple's App Store.

Billing

Payment will be charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.

Subscriptions automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period.

Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.

Managing Subscriptions

You can manage or cancel your subscription at any time through your Apple account settings.

Deleting the App does not automatically cancel an active subscription.

7. Free Trial

Step1st may offer a free trial period for certain subscriptions.

If you do not cancel before the trial period ends, your subscription will automatically convert to a paid subscription according to the selected plan.

8. Intellectual Property

All content, branding, design, and software within the App are the property of Step1st unless otherwise stated.

You may not:

  • copy
  • distribute
  • modify
  • or create derivative works

from the App without permission.

9. Service Availability

We strive to keep Step1st available and functioning properly, but we do not guarantee continuous, uninterrupted, or error-free service.

The App may be updated, modified, or discontinued at any time without prior notice.

Optional social and sync features rely on online network APIs. Party leaderboards and live feeds may update on a delay and may occasionally experience temporary downtime. We do not guarantee continuous, uninterrupted, or error-free synchronization.

10. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Step1st shall not be liable for:

  • any indirect or incidental damages
  • loss of data
  • loss of productivity
  • or damages arising from the use or inability to use the App or its optional social features

Use of the App is at your own risk.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time.

When updates are made, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised.

Your continued use of the App after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
